A Cleaner Trade View: Redesigned Summary, Executions Overview, and a Rebuilt Excursion Chart

Traders told us the v2.0 trade view was too data-heavy. The Summary tab and Executions overview have been redesigned around the numbers that matter most, and the excursion chart now plots price across the life of the trade.

Before v2.0, a trade had two tabs. Details was where you recorded the trade and wrote your summary. Info was where the detailed stats lived — efficiency, MAE and MFE, excursion metrics, planned risk.

v2.0 removed both. Recording moved to the new Executions tab, and the written review moved to the new Summary tab. The stats didn't get a replacement tab of their own — we folded them into the top of Executions and into Summary, so your performance data sits alongside the work instead of a tab away.

That part was right. You shouldn't have to switch tabs to see how a trade performed.

The layout was the part we got wrong. On the new screens, every figure carried the same visual weight, and all of it sat above the places where you record and review. Your feedback was consistent: it was too much at once. Opening a trade meant scanning around thirty numbers to find the four that actually describe it.

So we've redesigned the Summary tab and the Executions overview, and rebuilt the excursion chart from the ground up.

Nothing has been removed. It has been ordered.

The Four Prices That Define a Trade Now Lead

Every trade comes down to four prices: where you got in, where you were wrong, where you were right, and where you actually got out.

Those four now sit at the top of the view as headline figures, each carrying the context that makes it meaningful:

  • Entry — the price your position was built from
  • Stop — with the risk distance in pips
  • Target — with the planned reward in both R and pips
  • Exit — with the realised result in both R and pips

Read left to right, that's the entire trade in one line: what you risked, what you were playing for, and what you got. Everything below it is supporting detail, and now it looks like supporting detail.

Efficiency Reads as One Block

Entry efficiency, exit efficiency, and total efficiency previously occupied three separate panels — three panels for three numbers, stacked down the side of the view.

They're now a single compact block of three bars on a shared scale. The change is small in space and large in usefulness: efficiency figures are most informative relative to each other. A 97% entry next to a 32% exit tells you something specific about where the trade went wrong, and that comparison is much easier to make when both bars share an axis.

Supporting Detail, Grouped

The five side-by-side panels of the old overview have been reorganised into three grouped cards:

  • Timing — entry and exit times, sessions, and duration
  • Position Sizing — opening balance, financial risk, risk percentage, quantity, and position value per pip
  • Result — gross P&L, commissions, fees, net P&L, and net percentage

Fields have been moved into the section they logically belong to, so there are fewer places to look and less scanning to find any single figure.

Excursion metrics — available trade range, end trade drawdown, remaining distance to target, remaining distance to stop, MFE and MAE — have moved into a collapsible Excursion details section beneath the chart. If you work with those numbers regularly they're one click away. If you don't, they're no longer competing for your attention.

The Excursion Chart Now Shows Price

This is the part of the release worth logging in for.

The old excursion chart showed the shape of a trade: the stop zone, the adverse and favourable bands, the close, the target. It was accurate, and it was static. It could tell you the range a trade covered, but not how price moved through it. Two completely different trades — one that ran straight to profit, one that sat underwater for hours before recovering — could produce a nearly identical chart.

The rebuilt chart plots a price line across the full duration of the trade, with your reference levels marked alongside it:

  • Stop — where the trade would have been closed against you
  • Entry — your zero line
  • Target — the planned objective
  • Exit — where you actually closed
  • MFE — maximum favourable excursion, the best price reached
  • MAE — maximum adverse excursion, the worst price reached

Why the Price Line Changes the Review

Knowing your maximum favourable excursion was +2.56R is useful. Seeing when in the trade it happened is what changes your next exit.

With the price line in place, a handful of review questions become visual rather than inferred:

  • How close did you come to being stopped out? A trade that only ever drew down 0.08R sat comfortably the whole way. One that spent hours pressed against the stop before recovering is a different trade with the same result.
  • How much of the move did you leave behind? The gap between your exit line and the MFE line is the part of the trade you were right about and didn't collect.
  • Did price reach your target and give it back? The chart shows this immediately, where a metrics table only shows the end state.
  • Where did the trade actually spend its time? A position that hovered near breakeven for hours is worth reviewing differently to one that moved decisively.

These are the questions that turn a result into a lesson. They're much easier to ask when you can see the shape of the move rather than reconstruct it from numbers.

Pips, R:R, or Gross

The chart can be displayed in pips, R:R, or gross currency terms. Traders who think in R and traders who think in pips are both looking at the same trade — the toggle just makes the chart speak your language.

Two Things to Know About the Price Line

We'd rather be straight about the limits than have you discover them.

1. It requires a supported symbol. The price line is drawn from market data, so you need a symbol selected that we can source data for. With v2.0 that covers a very large instrument set, but if the trade uses a custom instrument or an unsupported symbol, the chart still renders your levels — it just can't draw the price line.

2. The price line is smoothed. To keep the chart loading quickly inside the trade view, it doesn't plot every available price point. The result is a faithful representation of what price did, not a tick-by-tick record. For an at-a-glance read of the trade, that's exactly what you want.

When You Need Exact Detail, Use the Chart Tab

The excursion chart is deliberately a summary view. When you need precision — the actual candles, the exact wick that took out your stop, the specific bar where the move turned — the TradingView chart is already there in the trade and loads full candle data.

The two work together. The excursion chart answers what happened to this trade. The TradingView chart answers exactly what happened, bar by bar.

Try It on a Trade You Remember

The fastest way to see the difference is on a trade you already have opinions about. Open one that ran well past your exit, or one that came close to stopping you out before it worked.

That's where the new chart earns its place — not by giving you data you didn't have, but by showing you a trade you thought you already understood.
