How to import MetaTrader 4 trades

Create a profile first, then choose either method below. You can upload an HTML report without installing the Expert Advisor or creating a profile key.

  1. Create an MT4 import profile

    Use one MT4 profile for either import method.

    1. In Trade Imports, choose New, then select MetaTrader 4.
    2. Select the destination trade account and set the Broker server time zone to match the clock in MT4.

Method 1

Automatic sync with the MT4 EA

Install the Trading Vault Expert Advisor when you want MT4 to send trading activity while the terminal is running.

  1. Download the EA and create a key

    Get the MT4 EA and the key that connects it to this profile.

    1. On the profile, select Configure EA, then Download EA to save TradingVaultSync.ex4.
    2. Select Create profile key and copy the key when it appears. Trading Vault shows it only once.

  2. Install and attach the EA

    Finish these actions in the MT4 terminal.

    1. Select File → Open Data Folder. Copy TradingVaultSync.ex4 into MQL4/Experts, then restart MT4.
    2. Open Tools → Options → Expert Advisors. Enable Allow WebRequest for listed URL and add the API address shown in Configure EA.
    3. Open a separate chart. Go to View → Navigator → Expert Advisors and drag TradingVaultSync onto that chart.
    4. In the EA settings, open Inputs, paste the Profile connection key, and select OK.

  3. Turn on automatic sync

    In the profile’s Edit settings menu, turn on Automatic sync. Keep MT4 connected and the EA chart open so new activity can be sent to Trading Vault.

  • For older trades, choose All History in Terminal → Account History so the EA can read them.
  • The EA reads trading activity; it does not place trades. Keep the profile key private.

Method 2

Upload an MT4 HTML report

Use a saved account history report for a one-time or occasional import. This method does not require the EA, a profile key, or an open terminal after export.

  1. Export account history

    Save the account history you want to import from MT4.

    1. Open Terminal → Account History in MT4.
    2. Right-click the history and choose All History or Custom Period for the dates you need.
    3. Right-click again, choose Save as Report, and save the HTML file (.html or .htm).

  2. Upload and review the report

    Check how Trading Vault will use the report before adding trades.

    1. Open the MT4 profile in Trading Vault and use Upload trades to add the saved HTML file.
    2. Review dates, prices, costs, unmatched rows, and invalid rows in the preview.

  3. Confirm the import

    Confirm the preview to add the accepted activity to your journal. Upload later reports to the same profile so import history can help identify repeats.

  • HTML reports are uploaded manually. Files are limited to 4 MB.

What to know before importing

  • Trade imports require an eligible membership. Automatic sync also requires sync access.

If something needs attention

  • If new trades do not arrive, check that MT4 is connected, the EA chart is open, WebRequest is allowed, and Automatic sync is on.
  • If report times look wrong, check the profile’s Broker server time zone before reimporting.
  • If a file is rejected, export the account history as HTML rather than a screenshot or PDF.

File uploads show a preview before confirmation. After importing, import history can help you review unmatched or invalid rows.
