Glossary
The glossary gives short definitions for trade, execution, risk, performance, and journal terms used throughout Trading Vault. For complete formulas, populations, evidence requirements, and limitations, use the Stats guide.
Average Win/Loss Ratio
The average positive trade outcome divided by the absolute average negative trade outcome. It is also called payoff ratio and can be calculated in Profit, R, or Percentage. See Performance statistics.
Allocation
A link between a close execution and the open execution it closes. Allocations let Trading Vault calculate scale-ins, scale-outs, remaining quantity, net movement, reward:risk, and profit across multiple executions.
Available Trade Range
The full price range available during a trade, measured from Maximum Adverse Price to Maximum Favourable Price.
Available Trade Range = Maximum Favourable Price - Maximum Adverse Price
Break-Even Trade
A trade where the result is neither a profit nor a loss after recorded costs.
Calmar Ratio
Annualized compounded selected-trade percentage return divided by absolute maximum percentage drawdown. Trading Vault uses exact elapsed calendar time. See Risk statistics.
Broker Fill ID
The broker's identifier for a specific fill or execution row. Trading Vault can use fill IDs to detect duplicate broker rows during import.
Broker Order ID
The broker's identifier for an order. One order may create one fill or several fills, depending on how the broker executed it.
Broker Position ID
The broker's identifier for the overall position or trade. Trading Vault uses position IDs to group related entries, scale-ins, scale-outs, and closes during import. Position IDs are usually imported automatically, but they can be entered or corrected manually when older data needs help matching future broker rows.
Close Date
The date and time of the final close execution on a trade.
Close Execution
An execution that reduces or closes trade exposure. For a long trade, close executions are sells. For a short trade, close executions are buys.
Close Price
The price of a close execution. For trade-level rollups, Trading Vault can use a weighted close price across multiple close executions.
Compounded Return
The geometrically linked sequence of saved per-trade percentage returns. It is a normalized selected-trade return, not cash-flow-aware account growth. See How statistics are calculated.
Commission
A broker commission charged for executing a trade.
Dividend
A dividend adjustment recorded on an execution.
Drawdown
The reduction from a previous peak to a later low. In Stats, Profit and R use their cumulative closed-trade paths. Percentage drawdown uses a compounded selected-trade index:
Percentage drawdown = (Trough index / Peak index - 1) * 100
This is not marked-to-market account equity. See Risk statistics.
End Trade Drawdown
The largest drawdown experienced during a single trade.
Entry Efficiency
A metric that measures how well the trade entered relative to the available price range and risk context. Higher entry efficiency means the entry captured more favorable positioning within the trade's range.
Execution
One filled market action recorded on a trade. Executions can be manual or imported from a broker and can include side, date, quantity, price, stop, target, costs, broker identifiers, MAP, and MFP.
Exit Efficiency
A metric that measures how well the trade exited relative to the available price range. Higher exit efficiency means the exit captured more of the favorable move.
Expectancy
The arithmetic average observed outcome per trade in Profit, R, or Percentage. Percentage expectancy is not compounded return. See Overview statistics.
Fee
An additional broker cost recorded separately from commission, roll, or dividends.
Financial Risk
The amount of account currency exposed if the trade reaches the recorded stop.
Gross Profit
Profit or loss before deducting recorded costs such as commissions, fees, roll, and dividends.
Import Execution Row
A row read from a broker file, auto-sync report, or custom CSV before or after it is matched to a Trading Vault trade execution.
Lot Size
The standardized amount of a market traded in one lot.
Maximum Adverse Excursion (MAE)
The largest unfavorable movement experienced during a trade.
Maximum Adverse Price (MAP)
The least favorable price reached during the trade. For a long trade, this is the lowest price reached. For a short trade, this is the highest price reached.
Maximum Favourable Excursion (MFE)
The largest favorable movement experienced during a trade.
Maximum Favourable Price (MFP)
The most favorable price reached during the trade. For a long trade, this is the highest price reached. For a short trade, this is the lowest price reached.
Monthly Return Reliability
A 0–100 score measuring how reliably the selected trades reproduced a dependable monthly R result when opportunities were available. It uses complete active months, opportunity-adjusted targets, and downside-only shortfall. See Monthly Return Reliability.
Movement
The distance price moved, displayed in the unit that matches the instrument, such as pips, ticks, or points.
Net Movement
The trade's result measured in movement units after entries and exits are allocated.
Net Profit
Profit or loss after recorded costs.
Net Profit = Gross Profit + Commissions + Fees + Roll + Dividends
Costs are commonly recorded as negative values.
Open Date
The date and time of the first open execution on a trade.
Open Execution
An execution that creates or adds trade exposure. For a long trade, open executions are buys. For a short trade, open executions are sells.
Open Price
The price of an open execution. For trade-level rollups, Trading Vault can use a weighted open price across multiple open executions.
Pip
A common price movement unit, especially for forex markets. Trading Vault can also display movement in ticks or points depending on the instrument.
Pipette
One tenth of a pip. Some forex prices include pipettes for more precise pricing.
Planned Trade
A trade idea recorded before an execution has occurred. Planned trades use a planned date and can later receive manual or broker-imported executions.
Profit Factor
A performance metric comparing winning trade profit to losing trade loss.
Profit Factor = Sum of positive outcomes / Absolute sum of negative outcomes
It can use Profit, R, or Percentage and classifies outcomes by numerical sign. See Overview statistics.
Profit Percentage
Net profit as a percentage of the account balance used for the trade.
Profit Percentage = Net Profit / Account balance at entry * 100
Remaining Quantity
The quantity still open after close executions and allocations are applied.
Recovery Factor
A cumulative metric comparing signed net result with absolute maximum drawdown.
Recovery Factor = Net result / Absolute maximum drawdown
See Risk statistics.
Reward-to-Risk Ratio
The result of a trade or target compared with the amount risked.
Target R:R = (Target Price - Entry Price) / (Entry Price - Stop Price)
The direction of the trade determines which side of entry is favorable or unfavorable.
Risk Percentage
The percentage of account balance at risk on a trade.
Risk Percentage = Financial Risk / Account balance * 100
Sharpe Ratio
Mean complete-month percentage return divided by sample monthly deviation and annualized with sqrt(12). It measures return relative to all observed monthly variability. See Risk statistics.
Roll
An overnight financing adjustment recorded on an execution.
Scale-In
Adding exposure to an existing trade with another open execution.
Scale-Out
Reducing exposure on an existing trade with a partial close execution.
Side
The execution action: buy or sell. Trading Vault combines execution side with trade direction to determine whether the execution opens or closes exposure.
Sortino Ratio
Mean complete-month percentage return divided by downside deviation below 0%, annualized with sqrt(12). See Risk statistics.
Standard Deviation
The spread of observed outcomes around their mean. Individual-trade standard deviation uses population deviation, while annualized monthly volatility uses sample deviation. See How statistics are calculated.

A metric that evaluates the trade result relative to the available trade range.
Total Efficiency = Net Movement / Available Trade Range * 100
Trading Mastery Score
An evidence-aware 0–100 summary of Edge, Resilience, Downside Performance, Reliability, and Risk Control. The dimensions are combined with a regularized weighted geometric mean. See Trading Mastery Score.
Trade Account
The account assigned to a trade. Accounts help separate broker accounts, backtesting accounts, paper trading, missed trades, and different currencies.
Trade Direction
Long or short. A long trade benefits from rising prices. A short trade benefits from falling prices.
