Add a New Trade
Recording your trades in Trading Vault is designed to be simple and convenient, whether you are planning a setup before entry or logging a trade that is already underway.
Use the Add Trade button at the top of the left-hand menu to open the Add New Trade modal. You can also press N from anywhere in the app to open the new trade modal without leaving your current screen.
The modal records the trade idea and, when the trade has already been entered, the first execution.
Trade details
Start by choosing the account, instrument, direction, and strategy.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Account | The enabled trade account the trade belongs to. If no accounts are enabled, enable or create an account before adding a trade. |
| Symbol | The instrument being traded. Select an existing instrument from the picker or create a custom instrument when the symbol is not available yet. |
| Direction | Long or short. Trading Vault uses this to label the opening and closing execution sides. |
| Strategy | The strategy connected to the trade. This is optional. |
| Status | Choose whether the trade is planned or executed. |
The symbol picker is instrument-backed. Selecting an instrument gives Trading Vault the market type, exchange, tick size, pip size, and price precision it needs for calculations, charting, and imports.
If the symbol you need is not listed, type the symbol and create it as a custom instrument from the picker. You can manage custom instruments later from Settings > Instruments, including market type, tick size, pip settings, exchange details, and linked trades.
Planned trades
Choose a planned status when you want to record a setup before entering the market. Planned trades use a planned date instead of an execution date. You can add the execution later from the trade's Executions tab or through a broker import that matches the planned trade.
Executed trades
Choose an executed status when the trade has already been entered. Trading Vault adds an initial execution to the trade.
The initial execution can include:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Date and time | When the execution happened. |
| Quantity | The number of units, contracts, shares, or lots recorded for the execution. |
| Price | The execution entry price. |
| Stop | The initial stop price for the execution. |
| Target | The initial target price for the execution. |
| Broker ID | An optional broker position identifier that helps imports match future broker rows to the trade. |
When price, stop, and target are entered, the modal previews the initial risk, target distance, and target reward:risk. Prices are formatted using the selected instrument's tick size and precision.
Save options
Use "Save and Close" to create the trade and return to your current page. Use "Save and Continue" to open the new trade immediately so you can add executions, review details, snapshots, tags, and notes.
