Compound Growth Calculator
The compound growth calculator helps you explore how trading returns can build over time. It is useful for testing growth assumptions, comparing natural compounding against regular deposits or withdrawals, and seeing when a target balance may be reached.

Account selection
If you are logged in, you can choose an account from your journal, use All accounts, or select Custom. Selecting a journal account fills the starting balance from your saved account balance. Editing the starting balance switches the calculator to a custom value.
Visitors can use the calculator with a custom starting balance.
Growth assumptions
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Starting Balance | The initial account balance used for the projection. |
| Years | The length of the projection. |
| Compound Period | How often the return is applied: daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannually or yearly. |
| Average Return per Period | The expected return for each compounding period. |
The return is applied once per selected compounding period. For example, a monthly compound period with a 5% return means 5% per month, not 5% per year.
Deposits and withdrawals
Use deposits and withdrawals to model real account cash flow rather than a clean compounding curve.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Deposit per Period | Adds a fixed amount each compounding period. |
| Withdrawal Type | Choose a fixed amount or a percentage of the current balance. |
| Withdrawal per Period | The amount or percentage withdrawn each period. |
The chart compares natural compounding against the actual balance after deposits and withdrawals, so you can see how cash flow changes the path.
Goal target
Set a goal to add a target line to the chart and calculate whether the projection reaches it.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Goal Balance Type | Choose Goal Balance for an exact balance target or Target Return for a percentage gain from the starting balance. |
| Goal Return | The target return percentage, shown with the equivalent target balance. |
| Goal Balance | The exact balance you want to reach. |
When a goal is set, Trading Vault explains whether the goal is reached within the selected time range and, if so, how long it takes.
Results
The calculator summarizes the projection with:
| Result | Description |
|---|---|
| Trading Profit | Total trading profit generated by the projection. |
| Final Balance | Ending balance after returns, deposits and withdrawals. |
| Total Return | Final balance growth relative to the starting balance. |
| CAGR | Compound annual growth rate over the selected years. |
| Total Deposits | Sum of all deposits across the projection. |
| Total Withdrawals | Sum of all withdrawals across the projection. |
The chart shows the projected balance over time, and the Compounding Period Income Projection table lists each period with date, trading profit, deposit, withdrawal and total balance.
Sharing the calculator
Use Share to copy a link containing the calculator assumptions. Shared links include the projection settings, but the starting balance is reset to the default custom balance so private account balances are not shared.
Strategy Simulator
Use the Trading Vault Strategy Simulator to run Monte Carlo equity curve simulations with win rate, R-multiple, position sizing, target balance and risk-of-ruin assumptions.
Trading Streak Analyzer
Use the trading streak analyzer to estimate the probability of winning and losing streaks across a trade sample and preview random win/loss sequences.
